 OverviewThe
EBox (Zebra) from CSP GmbH allows a Zebra bar code label printer to be
seen as an IBM AFP/IPDS printer over a TCP/IP
Ethernet LAN. This allows for a hassle-free replacement of IPDS
matrix, line and laser printers with an on-demand label printer from Zebra
technologies.  If you need AFP/IPDS capability for Matrix
Printers, click here. The IBM Ethernet connection to the AS/400
or iSeries host provides the same full error reporting and printing
control as a Twinax printer. The EBox accepts standard IPDS commands from the
IBM Host over a TCP/IP Ethernet LAN and converts
them into ZPL II, which is sent to the attached parallel printer.
Administrators or programmers do not need to learn a
new programming language (ZPL), nor is it necessary to modify
the bar code generating IPDS application software/drivers. The EBox was specifically designed to work with
203 dpi printers. This cuts down on the overall cost
of the printing solution while preserving the compatibility with existing
applications targeted at 300 dpi printers. A
particular benefit is the EBox?s support of two-dimensional bar code
symbologies such as Maxicode, Data Matrix, and PDF 417.
